We came, we saw, we sat in awe Our patience now rewarded A fitting end to bitter times That so long have been recorded We lost our spiritual home The Goldstone sold off beneath our feet And ground shared at Gillingham But never admitted defeat Then came the Withdean years A new stadium was the dream But every obstacle was put up To thwart this enterprising scheme But we kept the faith the team responded Success on the pitch was to follow Our saviour appeared and put down his marker Tony Bloom backed the plans of tomorrow And now like a beacon the new stadium is here Standing proudly on the edge of the City It’s the beginning of a new era And the long suffering fans can at last cheer Who knows what’s to come in the future The Premiership is the dream With Gus Poyet at the helm Its now up to our aspiring team With sweeping roofs and tiered stands The ‘Amex Stadium’ is a dream come true History is now in the making As the seagulls soar in their white and blue 17th July 2011 Published 'The Argus' 13th January 2012
